Return of Making a DifferenceThis fall will see the release of an updated brochure describing various aspects of a career in rural health. The new brochure is the work of the AAFP Rural Committee. The medical editor is Tom Norris. This brochure will make an excellent resource material for a rural presentation at student interest meetings, especially for a rural student group. AAFP Annual MeetingThe AAFP Annual will be in Chicago in October. There will be rural presentations but the format will not be much different than previous years. Contact AAFP for further information on this presentation and AAFP Rural Committee meetings or events. AAFP Releases AG-MEDAAFP and the Federal Office of Rural Health have developed a monograph "AG-MED: The Rural Practitioners Guide to Agromedicine by Stanley Schuman and William Simpson, Jr. It is an excellent review and reference. Only $19 from AAFP. Using Meetings to NetworkAt large meetings it is important to contact those who have been previously to get specific information about issues of interest to rural faculty. One attendee commented that he really didnt get much out of the meeting. Others came a day or two early and visited with rural researchers at WWAMI, networked with rural health experts at the Office of Rural Health Policy meeting, attended the Research and Education Constituency, held a separate rural faculty meeting after this session, and attended presentations by rural faculty, in addition to meals together and the usual conference events. Come join the fun. Contact Jeff Stearns for further info on STFM and NRHA presentations and plans. |
