Our residency is a new 1+2 RTT program with the first year at the

University of New Mexico at Albuquerque and the PGY II and PGY III years

at the Eastern New Mexico Family Practice Residency Program at the

Eastern New Mexico Medical Center. We have had ONE graduate, with a 100%

pass rate on the boards. We have two residents per year and are looking

to expand. My own special interests are obstetrics, operative obstetrics

and prenatal ultrasound. The residency has the county indigent prenatal

clinic and the family practice center prenatal clinic.

I expect about 200 deliveries for the 2000 / 2001 resident year. There

are 50,000 people in Chaves County, and they all live in Roswell. It is

200 miles in any direction to anywhere, but you can usually find

gasoline within 100 miles. It rained once 4 months ago. I think we can

offer a good rural training experience for motivated residents. Larry W.

Linnell, MD, Faculty Physician, ENMFPRP.
